I've never quite understood why we ask that question of certain classes of people (famous actors, musicians, sports stars), but not others (business execs, ourselves).
I buy an album, watch a movie, or go to a sporting event and expect to pay the going rate in exchange for the experience. I don't really care what the star's personal life is like, or what they "give back" to the community.
I think it's nice when a star is also a great human being, like Cal Ripken, Jr. But that's so rare these days. Whitney's downfall came when she hooked up with Bobby Brown. It's common knowledge that he was abusive and a druggie. That is when her problem started or, at least became apparent. What I see from all of what they have been saying today about Whitney, she did not seem to be someone who was in awe of her talent or, stardom and when Bobby Brown came along, her self worth and security seemed to have fallen even lower. I am sure that his abuse beat her down and even though they were divorced, once you have been beat down like that, the effects of it are always in the back of your mind.

ReplyDeleteI've never quite understood why we ask that question of certain classes of people (famous actors, musicians, sports stars), but not others (business execs, ourselves).
I buy an album, watch a movie, or go to a sporting event and expect to pay the going rate in exchange for the experience. I don't really care what the star's personal life is like, or what they "give back" to the community.
I think it's nice when a star is also a great human being, like Cal Ripken, Jr. But that's so rare these days. I expect to see most current stars splattered across TMZ's pages, usually in less than flattering light. And that's often interesting entertainment (which is free). Like, who doesn't get a hoot out of Bad Celebrity Mug Shots?
Whitney Houston's death is a tragedy, but no more so than any young life cut short. Hers is simply more notable because of her fame and what she did to achieve it. She will live on via YouTube.
But death of a celebrity is also a time to reflect on their achievements, and relive them. I've watched a bunch of videos of Whitney today. Still absolutely amazing stuff...

ReplyDeleteWhitney's downfall came when she hooked up with Bobby Brown. It's common knowledge that he was abusive and a druggie. That is when her problem started or, at least became apparent. What I see from all of what they have been saying today about Whitney, she did not seem to be someone who was in awe of her talent or, stardom and when Bobby Brown came along, her self worth and security seemed to have fallen even lower. I am sure that his abuse beat her down and even though they were divorced, once you have been beat down like that, the effects of it are always in the back of your mind.

ReplyDeleteWhat really does suck is.....watching someone sit on line and claim that she is "hot" or, that other people tell her she is "pretty"......all because others on line says she isn't. That shows right there that being told by someone that she hates(and others) that she is not pretty, not hot etc. is having an effect on her. She just has to counteract the claim that she is ugly. She is a very insecure bitch!
