Last names

Is it common to be married and give your child your maiden last name?

I Googled that and its only response was "Huh?"

In my situation, my Ex took my surname when we married. That was her choice, and I didn't really care one way or the other. That was mainly because she already had two sons. Their last name was the same as their father, and he wouldn't allow me to adopt them. Had she wanted to keep the same last name as her sons, that was fine with me. Had she instead gone with her original maiden name, I don't even want to think about the paperwork nightmares over the years with three different surnames in the same family.

To complicate things even more (and I hope no other parent inflicted this on their child), the common nicknames of their full first names was the same as their initials. So, had they changed their surnames to either mine or my ex's maiden one, that cutesy crap would've been ruined.

And while we're on the topic of married name confusion, consider this from WikiHow:

"Note that the term 'keeping a maiden name' is incorrect since it is called 'maiden name' only if you also have a 'married name'. Otherwise you don't have a 'maiden name' or a 'married name', you only have a name."

Say that fast three times, take two aspirin, and check back with me tomorrow morning.

And lastly, a note to all those parents who are considering "unusual spellings" of a common name for their child... DON'T!!! Never EVER do that. NEVER!!! I coached a boy for several years whose first name was Patrik. No, that's not a typo. It's the name his parents inflicted on him. I don't think he EVER got a sports trophy with it spelled correctly. I pictured him going thru life leaving messages with secretaries: "Please tell him that PatrikWithNoC Smith" called. Or filing for a change of name on his 18th birthday.

Okay... now *I* need some aspirin.

  3. You must be talking about Cindy. Whose daughter graduated from high school with her maiden name although Cindy claims she was married.

To you, Googling is obviously a Major Project. To me, it's a momentary diversion to grab information. That's because I can speed scan at 10,000 wpm, and my brain processes information at FIOS speed. Yours is obviously stuck with dial-up.

As to what we do with our lives, I like to write interesting articles that people enjoy reading.

You, on the other hand, are obsessed with everything I do and thus scrutinize every word I type praying that your limited processing power somehow stumbles onto an ugly thought about it that you can barely manage to express with your minimal vocabulary. And deep down, you know that everyone who reads your drivel will think, "Damn, that was incredibly idiotic."

  6. Well my son and his gf are not married and she gave my grandson her maiden name which I wasn't happy about but I am just glad that I have my grandson. He may have her name but she can't take the gene pool out of him.

  7. Looks like Cindy has lied about something else too. Her retirement is bogus. Crabb started asking her what type of retirement she had and she just said disability but couldn't say which ones out of the ones Crabb suggested. Crabb said go look at your paperwork and she said all she got was a frame that says awarded for life. Cindy couldn't name any of the insurance options the state has for retirees, couldn't name the office that administers retirement checks, etc.

The biggest giveaway for me that she is lying was when she said she had this illness while raising two daughters and going to college and working. Um, Cindy you were able to work 22 years with it then.

So she's just another Bonnie sucking up the state dole.
